This past winter, I decided to brush up on my music producing skills. There’s the Youtube route with being free from financial burdens, but as one that learns best with hands on training, I wanted to make an investment to take private one-on-one lessons. My producer in particular charged 250/month for an hour, but I liked his credentials and experiences. Some of my fave moments of my lessons were when he opened up actual tracks from K-pop songs and Korean OST dramas he produced. I got to go through the different stems in the music program and visually see how he edited them.
If you are a foreigner residing in Seoul, fluent in Korean, and interested in taking private music lessons, here are two sites that can direct you to contacting professionals in the music industry. The kinds of lessons available are anywhere from vocal lessons, various instruments, to even learning music production from Kpop producers and professionals.
Because the forum and site is for Korean natives, it only makes sense that you can speak and understand the language for the lessons. There may be a few people who have education backgrounds and experiences in English speaking countries and can speak English, but you’ll have to browse through the forum and read through their experiences to find that.
What to look for
Look through their credentials and experiences. Are you familiar with any of the artists and bands that they’ve worked with? Are you wanting to go more of a classical music route or contemporary music route?
Depending on the type of lesson and instructor, they may ask you to come in for consulting, which is a good way to communicate what kind of lessons you’re interested in. For instrumentals or recording and producing, let them know which skills you’re able to do and what kind of skills you’d like to further develop.
Best wishes in your music endeavors =)
